Atticus?

2.) Atticus's behavior in court is intriguing. Harper Lee went to great
lengths to describe the way he speaks and acts. Examine the way he
treats the members of the court and compare him Judge Taylor and
Gilmer.

Atticus is very straight up and formal while judge taylor isn't

but they are both relaxed and calm and are both insightful

I agree. Judge Taylor is way to laid back to be a serious judge it almost seems like. Atticus is being very smart about his case too. He knows exactly what he's doing.

i think atticus is the most responsible adult in this whole book. Unlike Taylor.

I agree with beyond the grave on how Atticus is in court, he's also very respectful to others in court.

Atticus is very interrogative, and seems like he wants to get as much information out without you understanding why he's asking the questions that he's asking (it's a lawyer trick). Judge Taylor is more relaxed and kind of chill about everything.

I think Atticus treats the wole court room like I'm trying to get a statement out. Judge Taylor is all calm chewing his cigar.

ballinger said...

I agree with Bryce how Atticus is really interrogative and always trys to get the most out of you without you knowing. I think Atticus knows exactly who really did it, but can not prove it yet.

I agree with Bryce and Amy on this question. Atticus is very serious and wont stop till everyone gets his point. The judge seems laid back but still has a hold of things going on

i agree wit beyond te grave. And that other lawyer dude didn't seem too nice either. Calling Tom Ribbison boy and talking harshly. I don't like him! :(

ballinger said...

I agree with dirt on how Judge taylor is laid back, but still know what is going on

I agree with Ballinger and Amy. Judge Taylor seems like he doesn't take anything serious. Or at least he doesn't handle things in the way they should be. Atticus on the other hand is very smart, but he shows it in a very peculiar way. He stands back and let other people talk than he shows his point.

the judge and atticus have a firm grip on what they are doing but to others it would seem lazy or in atticuss case crazy

I think that Atticus is very sly and cunning when he is in court. he asks question that get his point out without the Prosocution knowing that's why h is such a great Lawyer.

Atticus is very very smart and knows exactly how to handle this case. He does not want to hurt anyone and I thought that all of his questions were very convincing.

I agree with Amy that Atticus knows exactly what he is doing. Atticus is really smart and knows a lot of "tricks" to use in court. However I think that Judge Taylor isn't really laid back. I think that although he pretends to not really care he actually sees and hears everything that is going on inside the courtroom.

I think in a way Judge Taylor and Atticus are a lot alike in some ways. Now that Atticus is putting some new spins onto the case everybody is a little surprised in where the case is going, including Jude Taylor. Like Atticus said, Taylor is a good judge, and even if he does seem too laid back maybe it's just his way to handle things, even if it does seem awkward. Going into the case everybody in Maycomb thought for sure that the Ewell's would win the case just because Tom is black. But with Tom having a lawyer like Atticus it can put a whole new thought onto the case, and it probably makes the Ewell's, Mr. Gilmer, and Judge Taylor all a little nervous.

I think Atticus knows exactly what he is doing and is very confident int he fact that he might win this case he has a very strong point. the judge also i think can tell already who is innocent although i think he is a very Experienced judge i think he will sit back and listen to both sides. As he is supposed to no matter how the case is going. It seems to me that the judge is bored. he doesn't need to listen to everything or all of the testimonies because he has already in his head made a decision.

ballinger said...

Well i think no one really gets what Atticus is saying sometimes because he gets the people he interrogates to answer question that he knows have significant values to the case, but the other people think the question does not matter.

christian said...

i disagree with everyone who thinks the judge doesnt have a handle on his courtroom. being laid back is his way of life and u might get more out of someone if they think u r not listening

ballinger said...

good point christian about how you can get more out of people when they think you aren't listening

christian said...

atticus treats everyone in the courtroomlike they are a close friend of his even if they show him no respect or Tom.

~!~KeLsEy~!~ said...

but christian don't you think that judge taylor is a little too relaxed

I agree with bryce he has pulled a lot of tricks and im pretty ure he knows who it is but im not quite sure yet

I don't think that Mr. Gilmer fully understands (or care about) the feeling Tom must have... think about it, if Tom is innocent, and he is being accused with no evidence besides his own word, the least he deserves is a little sympathy or respect... Mr. Gilmer just disrespects him like he's just another black man he can harass.

I agree with Ciara that although Judge Taylor may seem a little to laid back he is still a good judge. also i think that MrGilmer isn't trying very hard on his case because while Atticus pushes his point until the whole court room gets it, Mr. Gilmer just asks his questions and sits back down. Maybe he thinks that he doesn't need to try because Tom, being black, ill be found guilty no matter what or maybe he believes that tom is innocent so he's not trying, or he could just simply not like Bob very much. Well I don't know what do you think

I think that Atticus is a little bit tricker when it comes to getting anwser like how he foung out that Mr.Ewell was left handed. I thought that was pretty cool.Judge Taylor can be serious but to me he strikes me as a laid back kind of person. I do think that Ciara does make a good point about how they are alike. I feel they do have some similar traits like hoe Atticus always listen to what people are saying and being a Judge and all I am sure Judge Taylor has to listen to people.

CiaRa said...

You can tell Taylor has respect for everybody in the court room because of the way he back up Atticus when Mayella says she is scared of him, and when Mr. Gilmer tried to object towards him. I think after the way he stood up for Atticus the Judge is planning on finding the truth about what really happened.

christian said...

No Taylor is very experienced he knows exactly what he is doing

Nikolai said...

I think Gilmer is just trying to hide evidence by asking questions that have many truths. While Atticus goes deep down.

Kelly said...

I think that the judge is a pretty cool person because he did try to help Atticus. and he is a fair person. If it was actually up to him, I think that Atticus would have won the case.

ballinger said...

Well i think that the judge is good at how he makes people think he is relaxed and not listening to what they are saying, but i think he is paying attention intentively to what they are saying and pertraying

**~Riley~** said...

I think that Judge Taylor is a fine judge. He knows what is going on and listens closely. He doesn't allow people to just stand up and say things. I think that this is his first court ever where he has actually had to take control because people were misbehaving.

ashley said...

I agree with Christian. you can get more from people when they dont think your listeing

kelsie said...

I think that Atticus is very serious about the whole thing and he's not going to stop until he gets his point across everyone. While the judge seems laid back but he still has a pretty good hold on things.

!*candi*! said...

Atticus was very relaxed and truly new what he was doing. He also new how to respect his witnesses, court, and family. Atticus gets the job done and does it very well.

~~maddie~~ said...

I think that they are both pretty laid back but they are both dong their job. It does seem like judge Teylor isn't taking it all that serious, but then again he is, thisis a serious case, why wouldn't he be? and Atticus is serous but he is still being easy and layed back.
